Funded Early Education​

 

Working parents Entitlement:

 

Eligible working families can access up to 30 funded hours of childcare for children aged 9 months to 4 years. This funding is available from the term after your child reaches the qualifying age and continues until they start school. The aim is to help with the cost of childcare while giving children the best start in their early learning journey. Families can check their eligibility and apply through the government’s childcare support service and our team will be happy to guide you through the process.

​Universal funding:

All children are entitled to the Government funded 15 hours of childcare in the term after they turn 3.

Flying Start offers a total of 27.5 hours a week for 38 weeks a year. ​

 
Families must have a valid Funding Code from the Government to be entitled to a funded place. The deadlines for applications are below. In order for us to claim the funding directly from Surrey County Council, all families receiving funding are required to complete the Surrey County Council Declaration form. 

​When to apply

You can apply for your code up to 16 weeks before your baby turns 9 months old. You need to apply online before the deadline to receive a code to give to your childcare provider. The deadline is the day before the new term begins, but we encourage you to apply earlier, and recommend applying at least 6 weeks before the deadline.

Codes need to be reconfirmed every three months. Remember to log in to your childcare account on GOV.UK to check when your reconfirmation dates are, so that you can renew your code on time. You will also receive reminders from HMRC when it is time for you to reconfirm. Failure to reconfirm on time will make your funding invalid.

Flying Start Preschool Additional Charges
 

In accordance with Department for Education (DfE) guidance, the Government’s Early Education Entitlement funding does not cover consumables, snacks, or additional services beyond the delivery of basic childcare. To maintain the high quality of care and education at Flying Start, we therefore make a separate charge to cover these items.

Consumables and additional services include (but are not limited to):

• Higher staff ratios for more individual attention

• Nutritious snacks provided during the day

• Wipes and toileting resources (e.g. gloves, wet clothes/nappy bags)

• Art and craft materials (paints, paper, glue, playdough, etc.)

• Cooking ingredients for children’s activities

• Gardening resources (seeds, soil, pots, etc.)

• Cleaning and hygiene materials used in direct provision for children

• High-quality learning resources and equipment

• A wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities

• External workshops, visits, and entertainment opportunities throughout the year

• Special events such as Mother’s Day, Christmas and other celebrations

• Access to the online learning journal Tapestry

• Funding administration

These items ensure that children benefit from high-quality resources, enriching experiences and effective communication between home and setting. Whilst these charges are voluntary, they are nonetheless crucial, as we depend upon parental support to keep the preschool open and thriving.
